Brisbane and Surfers Paradise
Brisbane was cool, met some nice people including a guy from Swindon. Was cool to talk about home (sad as that is!) I think with any city if you are going to spend more than a few days there you need to have some other interest, ie. getting a job or finding a house as there's only so much to see. Nice place anyway.
After Brisbane we took a short (80Km) trip down the coast to the brilliantly named Surfers Paradise, my first impression was that it was a place I could spend a lot of time in as it reminded me of some parts of Spain. It was very touristy and a trashy tho and I soon got a bit fed up with it. I did have my first surfing lesson which was good fun, definitely plan to do that again. Went out on a "pub crawl" on Saturday night which was a bit of a disaster. spoke to some alright people although everyone was already in groups, they took us to 1 bar and then straight to clubs. All I wanted to do was chat to people but everyone else seemed intent on getting fantastically drunk and dancing like tits, besides it was pretty much impossible to hold a conversation over the music. There was a huage fight aswell which I nearly got pulled into, I walked home shortly afterwards.
Anyway i'm now back in Byron and I love the place, booked up until Thursday but might stay longer; i've just found out one of the worlds top 10 dive sites is here and also the waves break beautifully (nice long barrels) which should be good for surfing...but at the same time I want to get to Sydney and get a job before they all go. I could come back next year I suppose. Anywho got to dash as it's the first sunny day i've seen in a while.
